Oh I love it when BuzzFeed posts something buzzworthy!
Like these amazing 18 mason jar salads which can be easily prepared in a matter of minutes.
Look cool and healthy at the same time!
So…Halloween is around the corner which means I’m going to eat healthy (or try my best to) for the next few weeks so I can binge on some candy. That said, this week my posts will be dedicated to healthy eats!
I figure every now & then we need someone to spill some fresh meal ideas into our brain. Because attempting to search for recipes on Pinterest means letting yourself be consumed by a black hole for 123 hours!!! aaaaand nothing gets done…
So…what’s the trick to creating salads in a mason jar:
The dressing goes first.
Then goes the grain or protein…
Then the fixings…
Then the leafy greens.
A formula as simple as this can create a:
Burrito Bowl Salad

Egg and Avocado Mixed Salad

Asian Noodle Salad

OR…
Pomegranate and Pear Salad (yummm)

And off you go in prepping your lunch meals for the remainder of the month.
Tomorrow we will share ideas on how to jump start your day with a healthy simple easy breakfast meal!
In one of my earlier posts, I confessed to the world how I royally suck at doing my hair! No matter how hard I try, I always find myself struggling on the 10th hour of a 5-minute tutorial!
Well…I have another confession to make!
I just don’t enjoy cooking! I…really…don’t! Explains why I was fit when I was living on my own. My enthusiasm for cooking allowed for an egg, cheese sandwich or baked fish on good days, but on most days I talked myself even out of those to simply settle for a bowl of cereal.
So you know you have my undivided attention when you post something like 17 Rainy Day Soups To Make In 20 Minutes Or Less, or 11 Easy Lunches You Can Make In 5 Minutes (Or Less)!!!
I mean c’mon who wouldn’t be tempted to make these soups if you knew you can have them in less than 20 minutes:
So do yourself a favor & quickly print out these soup and lunch recipes by Brit + Co. But be prepared to lose an hour wandering around their website afterwards. It’s full of ridiculously fun posts!
This is ME when someone says “diet?”
I am SURE as hell one of your New Year Resolutions is to eat healthy, a resolution which will approximately last 100% successfully until V-Day at which point it will begin to crumble. And then subsequently all hopes of eating healthy will be diminished by Easter.
If this doesn’t sound like you then you’re that disciplined moron I come to envy each year!
Last year as my 2014 resolution, I took on the task to find ways to eat healthy, happy and consistently. Healthy eating will produce the results you want if it has a chance at becoming an ongoing part of your life as opposed to being part of some seasonal diet plan. To accomplish that, healthy eating is something you must enjoy and do consistently so your body has enough time to adjust to it to begin producing results you desire.
Very soon my Pinterest page became a repository of all meals quick, budget-friendly and healthy. But Pinterest to me is like poison for the OCD! I’d get on Pinterest at 12:00 pm to look up a recipe only to find myself reading how to DIY cuff links for my dog by 12:07 pm! I needed a better, more efficient route for my OCD mind if I wanted to get on a healthy & consistent plan.
I have NO clue how I ended up discovering my first healthy-eating resource on Instagram. Must have been me living the same “healthy recipe to DIY cuff links for dog” moment on Instagram but anyhow, point being, Instagram is actually a pretty good resource for quick, delicious and healthy recipes only if you know where to click.
So…today, I will share with you 5 Instagrammers I follow for healthy recipes. They’re all actually pretty awesome and only a few clicks away on your phone with recipes available right on their Instagram page (meaning no need to visit their website). I can look them up quickly while I’m standing at H.E.B dazed and confused in the middle of the day wondering “what the hell to cook…”
Aren’t you glad you read this??!!!
Now say to yourself:
and remember:
Growing up, Chemistry was one of my favorite subjects, believe it or not. I think the magic of it is synonymous to that of Math. You either get it, or you don’t. I was one of the fortunate ones to have an amazing high school Chemistry teacher who changed my perspective on Chemistry altogether — she made it fun & she made it understandable…
20-something years later, working in the Chemicals industry, I realize I should have paid more attention to my Chemistry teacher in high school. Because literally everything around us is made of Chemicals including all foods. And the different kinds of chemicals they contain give the stuff we eat their flavors, colors, and smells.
On the blog Compound Interest, Andy Brunning, a chemist and teacher in UK has illustrated the chemistry behind everyday foods through a series of colorful infographics. Wish the Internet was a few finger strokes away when I was growing up. Having access to such visual candy would have made learning a ball game!
I hope this helps all my Science teachers out there. At least I enjoyed perusing through his blog.
Studies in rodents have suggested that raspberry ketone may have an anti-obesity effect, but there is currently no reliable scientific evidence for this effect being observed in humans.
Honey has such low water content, it can dehydrate bacteria thus preventing spoilage. In fact, the oldest known sample of honey, found in an Ancient Egyptian tomb and dated to approximately 3000 years ago, was still perfectly edible.
Polyester absorbs only 0.4% of its weight of water which is why most sweat evaporates.
Too much of any chemical into the body can cause toxic effects, and even death – the only variant from chemical to chemical is how much is ‘too much’.
Theobromine, a stimulant that produces a similar effect to caffeine, is what makes chocolate toxic to dogs.
The Eugenol in cloves can act as an antifungal and antibacterial agent (in preventing toothaches) and maybe of use to treat premature ejaculation 😉
The breakdown of asparagusic acid, a chemical found only asparagus, might be what causes some people’s pee to smell after eating the vegetable.
Why Why haven’t I made your Chemistry experience a lot more fun! See? It’s not all doom!
Let’s support Andy on his journey in making our day-to-day interactions with chemicals more visually appealing!
So…the Houston Magazine is my newest passion, thanks to Saf, I spent nearly one hour reading about local food joints. First & foremost, for those of you who are not privileged to be a Houstonian 😉 (don’t worry, no one’s perfect!), we are sincerely and quite candidly one of the BEST foodie towns in this country, hands down!!! And luckily, there is no near-term shortage of up & coming tasty treats to indulge in at your pleasure. So yesterday evening, we made our way to Local Foods in Upper Kirby, offering locally-sourced, healthy ingredient- abundant choices on the menu. It had been on my radar for a while plus the weather was Houston-perfect as in cool, breezy, you know, in the 80s…
Honest opinion, it’s a GREAT joint for healthy eating if that’s what you’re game for. In fact, if you’re like me who prefers to eat healthy throughout the week & then binge during weekends as if my body is somehow programmed to ignore it, this is the perfect weeknight getaway. It does lack a certain “kick” or as I like to refer to it as the good “fat”…but nevertheless, don’t miss out on it while the weather is still perky!
